Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS)
What is the MHSDS?
The Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS) collects data from the health records of individual children, young people and adults who are in contact with mental health services.
Submitting data to the Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS) is mandatory for all organisations receiving funding from the NHS.
The submitted data is analysed and used to create reports about service quality which are then shared with the submitting service provider and their stakeholders.
Why is it important for IPS services to submit data to the MHSDS?
NHS England is continuing to invest in the world’s largest scale-up of IPS services. Through increasing access to IPS, the NHS will support an additional 35,000 people with severe mental illnesses where this is a personal goal to find and retain employment by 2023/24, a total of 55,000 people per year. This investment will support people to get back into or gain access to or retain employment. It will improve outcomes and recovery for people, meaning they spend less time in hospital and live healthier, happier lives.
The MHSDS is the primary data source for NHS England to monitor the success of the IPS scale-up. It is therefore crucial that you are able to submit your data to the MHSDS, so that NHS England can continue to track the success of IPS.
IPS Grow have produced guidance for IPS services which can be accessed below. In order to gain further details regarding Data and Reporting in IPS please register to join the IPS workspace on the FutureNHS Collaboration Platform.
